The Story Behind Our Summer Salts Blend Coffee

I met Peter at the Myrtle Avenue for Chef Chris' Empowered Kitchen fundraiser barbecue competition. Peter makes delicious coffee, and he always makes sure to make it exactly how I want it. If I tell him anything is wrong with it, he immediately fixes it for the queen, the salt lady. He always makes me salted drinks. My favorite is the strawberry mocha.

I've had his drinks in bottles too. It's one of my favorite coffees, but it's also one of the hardest to find in all of Jacksonville. You can only get him at special events at Myrtle Avenue and at his pop-up inside Southern Swells, Thursday to Saturday, 8 to 1. Those are the only two places to get a coffee made with Long Road… or you can buy the beans from me now!

This is the Chocolate Roast, which has typically only been available during the holiday season, but I begged Peter to let me have it as my Summer Salts Blend, because it's my favorite. It smells like chocolate, but there's no weird artificial flavoring causing that, the beans are just chocolatey. It's delicious. Everybody who's had it so far has loved it, and it's my favorite one.

And today we are now bringing it to you full time, in 12 ounce ground or 8 ounce whole bean.

About Long Road Coffee

Meet the roaster behind the blend

Peter started Longroad Coffee Company back in 2016 in San Antonio, Texas, roasting small batches for himself and friends before it grew into something bigger. He's the Head Roaster, and every batch that comes out of his roaster is done by hand, guided by sight, sound, and smell rather than a set formula.

He's particular about sourcing, too. Longroad only uses specialty-grade coffee, the kind that makes up just the top slice of coffee worldwide, and works to trace every bag back to the farm or co-op it came from, so the farmers behind it are compensated fairly.

These days you can find Longroad's espresso bar tucked inside Southern Swells Brewing in Jacksonville Beach, Thursday through Saturday, 8am to 1pm, plus the occasional pop-up around town. You can also shop his full coffee lineup directly at longroad.coffee.
